to sleep. They are part of the current problem where an ever growing number of people are walking away
from our democratic system because it no longer listens to them or represents things they consider
important.
A handful of politicians refusing to give a straight answer to a question while either blaming the other
side or spouting numbers that are often spurious.
The political class is widely regarded as corrupt, untrustworthy, out of touch, uninterested in the concerns
of the population, bought and paid for, focused on London, greedy, cat lovers, public school boys, liars,
cheats, arrogant, cruel, self serving, and much much more.
For years that same political class has been telling us that being in Europe is good and that leaving Europe
would be a disaster, that we cannot leave the EU because the world will end, because the UK on its own
would have no voice on the world stage, that GB plc is a non entity that needs to be part of Europe to
have any relevance.
That leaving the EU would lead to a biblical disaster:
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies, rivers and seas boiling!
Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes!
The dead rising from the grave, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together!
Mass hysteria!
Efforts to explain the positive results we get from being in the EU are mostly that all the above does not
happen along with some comments about how much of the billions we give the EU we then get back in
EU grants and funding.
We have been given promises of a referendum on the matter that were later withdrawn on the grounds
that a vote was no longer needed.
We have been told again and again that we will be given a vote if “New” EU regulations try to reduce British
sovereignty which is a joke given that the EU simply adds new sections or makes changes to existing rules
to get what they want without allowing nations the chance to oppose them.
We have been promised a new vote in 2017 “If” we vote Tory, or maybe it was 2018, Or 2021 if we vote
them in for a third term.
In 1973 Britain joined a trade group called the European Economic Community, a free trade alliance of
nations based in Europe. In 1993 that became the European Union and nations and democracy have been
falling ever since.
When people say that the EU is democratic because Members of the European Parliament are elected and
serve in the European Parliament ask them how democracy was served in Greece or Italy when democratic
leaders were replaced by Brussels appointed Eurocrats.
Now we find ourselves watching the leaders of the two minor UK political parties (yes I do mean UKIP is the
equal of the Lib Dems).
We have an MEP Nigel Farage making the case for leaving the EU and the Lib Dem leader (for now) and
deputy Prime minister Nick Clegg fighting for the EU corner in between trying to make the case that Nigel
worships the ground Putin walks on and that only little Ingerlunders and closet racists support UKIP.
At least Nigel has never spoken of the British national burden being: “A misplaced sense of superiority,
sustained by delusions of grandeur and a tenacious obsession with the last war”.
In case I seem biased and Pro Farage here, Nigel is an opportunist who is using the current and very real
concerns about the EU, lack of democracy/accountability/Audited accounts etc to advance his personal and
political agenda. But this still leaves him head and shoulders above Nick who is unashamedly pro EU and
from time to time seems anti British. I dislike Farag a lot less than I dislike Clegg.
Dave and Ed have both refused to be drawn on the subject out of shame or more likely cowardice. If they
take part they may be forced to actually make a statement about where they both stand (Hugely pro EU)
and demonstrate on TV that they have no intention of allowing anyone a real vote on the matter that has
even the slightest chance of giving the wrong answer.
So we have the two main political parties hiding their collective heads in the sand and leaving it to the minor
league to do the arguing.
Only it’s not working properly. Something has gone wrong, very wrong. The much maligned beer drinking
buffoon is winning and the smooth sophisticated wine sipper is getting trounced.
The EU debate is going very wrong, people are supporting the NO side and doing so publicly, Nick went from
trying logical arguments to shouting, interrupting and snide comments along with not even looking at Nigel
and it didn't work.
Those stupid proles are supporting the buffoon; do they not know their place?
Funny things are happening. For years we have seen polls that say millions have very real concerns about
how a steadily increasing number of our Laws and Rules come from the EU and are having a detrimental
effect on our lives.
Nick tells us a mere 7% of our Laws come from the EU, Nigel says 75%. Both Tory and Labour Government
figures say 50% so Nigel looks as if he is exaggerating and Nick looks like he is lying through his teeth.
But other politicians or ex politicians are being made brave, heads are popping above the parapets, ranks
are being broken. Those fractious back benchers have always been trouble but they can normally be bullied
back into line by party whips, thugs or bribes. This is getting tougher as they become aware that they are
on the winning side, they are getting harder to bully, and Dave is having trouble in the ranks.
The fact that the debate is happening and is being won overwhelmingly by the give us a vote side is making
people brave, people like to be on the winning side and many who had no clear choice in the matter are
sliding over to the vote side.
Both main parties have avoided any public debate on membership of the EU for very good reasons, such
public debates are difficult to control or manage, it’s hard to spin live events, spouting propaganda instead
of answering questions in front of a live audience gets boos on national TV.
Dave and Ed don’t want to be in a position where the smelly proles actually get to ask them unscripted
questions or dare to expect honest answers so they refuse to turn up.
I heard a comment a few nights ago about how the debate would never dare to ask Dave the same questions
because he would turn his back and walk out, well hey guys, if you think the PM has such contempt for
the public he is supposed to represent why not invite him so the public can see it happen.
Politicians are feeling the wind change and are rushing to jumping on the vote wagon.
Pressure is mounting
40 years ago the UK voted to join a trade alliance, 40 years later we are members of an organisation that
changes the way we live, brings in 50% (by government figures) of our laws, overthrows democratically
elected leaders that do not toe the EU line, acts to control how we do business or trade with other nations
and generally seems to be in charge.
No one 40 years ago voted to give the power to create new UK laws to Europe, no one 40 years ago
voted to sideline the British Parliamentary system, no one 40 years ago voted for the EU, we voted for
the EEC.
So why are we not given a vote on the EU which is a very different animal to the EEC?
Why are we not given the chance to make our own choice on who rules the UK, London or Brussels?
Leaving the EU will be an economic disaster we are told. We would no longer be able to trade with Europe,
we would need to renegotiate all our trade agreements and we would lack the might of the EU behind us.
Poppy cock. Male bovine Droppings.
We are part of Europe by geography, we are part of the EU by cowardice.
Germany, France, Italy, Spain, they are not going to stop selling us their produce because we are no longer
in the EU. British tourists are not going to be banned from the Med because we are no longer in the EU. It is
not suddenly going to be impossible or too expensive to buy French wine or German cars.
We live in a global market, global communications linking global buyers and sellers. Emerging and expanding
markets present massive opportunities to bring British goods and services to most of the world’s population
unrestrained by rules enforcing trade between a single market of merely 500 million.
Yes those half billion people have more money to buy our goods and services than say the average citizen of
China, India or Africa. At present anyway. But those nations are growing and expanding.
Cutting ourselves off from them by staying part of an increasingly overbearing, financially and morally deficit
tyranny makes no sense.
Give us a vote, let us decide for ourselves, are we not a democracy? No I don’t expect a national vote on every
little thing but I do expect a national vote of the biggest and most important things and this is one of those.
Give us a vote Dave and Ed. Nick doesn't matter and probably will not be around much longer, Nigel has no
power. We live in the Dave and Ed show.
But as long as we have Dave and Ed and politicians like them in power, as long as pro EU types put the EU
ahead of the country they were elected to represent, as long as a British exit vote threatens to bring the
entire faltering house of cards down and spoil the whole idea of a Federal Europe they will never allow a vote.
Us stupid proles could vote the wrong way and that can never be allowed.
