Just what is the hurry to start bombing Syria?
What is the agenda, what is the timeline that requires an attack right now?
Why the frantic activity to secure approval for an attack that the vast majority of both
UK and US populations do not appear to want?
Parliament said NO, by a narrow margin but it was still a no and if you count the number of
people who did not want to be seen to be voting then more than 300 MPs said no.
But there will be a second vote if circumstances change says Hague.
Hague and Cameron are both EUcrats. The EU approach to votes that do not go the way they
want is to hold them again and again until the result is Correct so you can be sure there will
be a second vote, a third vote and if need be a tenth vote until the MPs vote the way the
government thinks they should.
But just to make sure that there is a justification we are now getting these fascinating
stories about Syria posing a threat to Cyprus.
Here are a few of the headlines:
RAF Typhoon jets scrambled to intercept Syrian planes near Cyprus. Sun.
Syrian warplanes flee after testing defences at British air base in Cyprus. Mirror.
RAF fighters sent to intercept Syrian planes in Cypriot airspace. Daily Mail.
RAF jets scrambled to investigate Syrian planes. Independent.
RAF Typhoon jets were scrambled after reports that Syrian ground attack fighters had
entered Cypriot airspace. Express.
The various stories in the news contain the following snippets amongst others:
Syrian Bombers had refused to respond to repeated attempts by the control tower at the
UK’s Akrotiri air base to make radio contact.
RAF Typhoon fighters won a mid-air showdown with two Syrian warplanes heading towards
Britain’s main base in Cyprus, the Sunday People can reveal.
The Syrian planes are believed to have been Russian-made Sukhoi Su-24s, a heavily-armed
fighter bomber that can reach Cyprus, 200 miles from Syria, in just 15 minutes.
The dramatic confrontation came after President Bashar al-Assad’s air chiefs sent two
Russian-made Sukhoi Su-24s to probe our air defences.
Cypriot newspapers cited reports by local air traffic control sources that the Syrian air
force jets had been observed flying over the city of Famagusta well within North Cypriot
airspace.
Good grief. Russian made Syrian aircraft filling the skies over Cyprus, Assad aunching strikes.
The people of Cyprus digging trenches and cowering as bombers fly directly overhead.
War is imminent. Mass panic!
Strangely when you look at the MOD version of events, what with them being the people who
were actually there, it’s a bit different.
An MoD spokesman said: "Typhoon Air Defence Aircraft operated from RAF Akrotiri on
Monday, 2nd September 2013, to investigate unidentified aircraft to the east of Cyprus;
the aircraft were flying legally in international airspace and no intercept was required."
Something is wrong here. Were the MOD not briefed properly. They are clearly not following
the approved government line of warmongering here. Unidentified aircraft, did the RAF not get
the memo about blaming Syria for any UFO or pigeon that entered the area.
International airspace, legally flying, no intercept. I think someone on the Island of Cyprus is looking
at a distinct lack of future in his or her military career over this one.
Telling the truth under Cameron’s watch, not good for a person’s career these days.
So since this was basically a non event why is it everywhere you look. Every newspaper, all the
TV news. Every reporter is saying the same thing.
It’s the Syrians, the Syrians are coming.
Look to the skies for the falling bombs.
We are not safe, Assad will launch an attack at any time.
We MUST strike first.
While I’m not old enough to remember the cold war of the late 40s and 50s I have seen the
propaganda of the time. This is exactly the same thing. Whip up the population, make them afraid
of the enemy. Fear the reds, fear the Syrians.
Call me cynical, people do, but we have Hague banging the war drums so loudly it’s getting hard
to hear around him and then we have every media organization in the UK reporting that the Syrians
are now threatening us directly. That Assad is launching fighters and bombers against the UK base
on Cyprus.
There will be a second vote, and a third. There will be justification for that vote, not because of
anything Assad may do but because of things he will be reported to have done.
For some reason Cameron and Hague and Obama are desperate to attack Syria, to overthrow
Assad and to reduce the country to chaos and oppression under the jihadists.
To me it seems that if a good reason does not come along inside the timeline they are working
to then they will create one.
So just why are these three men so anxious to start bombing Syria?
