This morning I, like everyone else, woke and checked the news to find headlines and front pagers screaming TRUMP WINS in big letters. Shocked sounding TV reporters and presenters were busy heaping insult and mockery on Trump supporters in many subtle ways and Bookface was being to writhe as friends posted how shocked they were. The American election is over, Trump won. Hilary lost. The world is no worse that it was yesterday and no better. Either candidate would have changed things for the worse, neither offered any real chance of a better world for everyone; it truly was pick the one who hated least. Which is what America did, the popular vote went to Trump which was unsurprising, when the media work so hard to hide how many attend Trump rallies and to hide how few attend Hilary rallies only fraud will lead to a popular victory for the unpopular candidate. The better motivate get out and vote. Edit. Updated figures shows the popular vote went by a very small margin to Hillary. Though I was expecting the Electoral vote to go to Hillary, I thought she would have fixed that part of the system, perhaps the electoral vote holders decided going with the popular vote was best when the alternative was being dragged out of their homes by a mob. But in the end Hilary, like the stay campaign, represented what was, Trump. Like the leave campaign represented an uncertain new future. People looked at what they had and what they didn’t have and they chose that uncertain future with it’s possible hope over a certain future without. Lots of people are pointing the finger of blame, at everyone but themselves, they blame people for being stupid, bigoted, racist, angry, afraid, and crooked. In fact much the same insults that were. and still are being thrown at the Brexit voters. Many people I know liked to hope that Brexit was an anomaly, that millions who voted leave made a mistake and didn’t really mean it. That it wasn’t as bad as it seemed because people were changing their minds and that sanity would prevail. That Brexit was a blip, not a significant change in the very outlook of our society and structure. After all it was a single issue and while 17 million people voted for it, the total of those who voted against and who did not vote was higher. But didn’t votes aren’t counted, it is the motivated who win and now we have a clear example that Brexit was not a blip, it was a sign of the future. The world she is a changing, for better or for worse a new order is coming, unstoppable, inevitable. It may be resisted by tyrants, the forces of law and order may try to stop it, but it is here and because it is too deeply seated without our societies any attempt to stop it will fail. Yep, will fail. That’s what I see. Right and far right parties across Europe are celebrating because they see the writing on the cards and they know they are on the winning side. Yes they are on the winning side, fear and anger is winning and the reasons are clear to see: When political agendas call themselves austerity and are deliberately designed to take money from the poor and give it to the rich. When corporations and the rich are given tax cuts while the poor get poorer and are heaped with insults and mockery. When again and again the political and economic elite show themselves to be above and beyond the law that binds the rest of us, cover-ups, ‘errors, delays, mistakes, and they get off again and again while we feel the full weight of the law for the slightest transgression. When the very institutions designed to support us in our hour of need are perverted and turned into instruments of oppression and cruelty. When governments, with the stroke of a pen or the tick of a box, condemn tens of thousands of families to crushing poverty, hunger and homelessness and then do so again and again. When our political and economic elite seek to blame the poor for being the cause of their own problems, when it was that very elite that was to blame. When all this and much more is the reality of life in our society under the existing order it is so very easy for fear and anger to take root, all that is needed is to give such things a target. People find themselves without hope for the future, incomes falling, a cruel and oppressive political and economic elite ruling over them from great palaces and ivory towers while people face losing their homes due to cut backs and austerity. Again and again hope is snatched away until millions now live without any hope at all. And so they make choices, they vote for the new and uncertain rather than the old and certain. When you have no hope in the existing system what is to risk voting for something new, when someone offers who even slight hope it is an improvement over what you have, which is nothing. What we are seeing is the three generation life span of our great democratic experiment, much like any other empire it is dying from within. The generation who bleed and died to create it are gone, those who grew up with the living stories of such times are gone, those who know nothing except a free and democratic world open for them to exploit are in power now and they have been greedily taking everything they can with both hands. Our democracy, our economy, both openly manipulated by those who have never had to fight to protect either and as such have no regard for anything except themselves. Is it any wonder that people are angry and afraid, when the jobs their parents and grandparents had are nothing but distant memories, when the freedoms those people died for are considered a nuisance by our governments, when they live week to week or day to day, going cold and hungry so some corporation or billionaire can add yet more money to the annual profit margin. People are angry and afraid and they will grasp at any hope while damming those they blame for their condition. So they listen to those who give that anger and fear a target, they listen to people who offer them new hope no matter how slim. They look at the present and the future and they see nothing for themselves and so they call for change, the demand change and they vote for change. 2020 will bring along much the same in the UK that 2016 bought to America, Brexit was not an anomaly, it was the first shout of the angry mob and that shout has been answered loud and clear in America. The rest of Europe is answering. This is a generational change, it represents the next 20 to 25 years of political thought. Think Glorious Leader May is off to the right, stick around for the next few years and see the candidates we get here in the UK for the next general election. Our society has been engineered to favour the rich and the corporations over the population, this is the angry response and it is going to get worse because nothing is changing for the better and things are still getting worse. 2016 Trump is going to be a mild centrist candidate compared to what is to come. So buckle up people, it’s going to be ‘Interesting’. |
