For those of you who are A: crazy enough to be closely following political events, B: cursed with enough free time to keep up with live events and C: Insane, the SNP released its manifesto today and everyone is full of how its plainly a demand for money, power and a pet pony.
Over the last few days we have had the Tories say it will be a cold day in hell before they every do anything with the SNP, Labour have said they will never ever absolutely under no circumstances ever form a coalition with the SNP, the Lib Dems have said they will put on a performance of the wizard of Oz for anyone and the three ladies have said they will not have anything to do with UKIP or anyone who is in an alliance with UKIP, which means the Tories.
Poll after poll shows the same thing, a hung parliament, the Nasty party and the Incompetent party lacking enough votes to form a majority and so forming a minority government with support from other parties. Which means the SMP since they are looking at taking most of Scotland’s MPs, making them by far the third party in UK politics.
So I’m thinking that unless something very strange happens we are looking at an alliance of left or slightly left of the Tories parties after a few days of horse trading after the election.
But one thing I keep seeing and that is attacks on the SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, its all her fault for taking those labour seats north of the border, she will be in control, SNP blackmail and demands, Ed a puppet dancing to bagpipes.
A lot of attacks, a lot of claims that she will split the UK and take Scotland independent, the Tories are really pushing the fear and loathing meme with many comments about a vote for labour is a vote for the end of the union.
A couple of things here people:
Democracy, look it up. If the people of Scotland vote to leave they leave, they didn't. I don’t see the SNP calling another referendum for a few years but even if they do, its a democracy stupid, if the Scots walk it will be because they think they can do better as an independent.
Who can blame them, the UK provides them with money by way of the Barnett deal yes but there are all those little things like broken promises, being treated better than the midlands and north of England is hardly a ringing endorsement of Scotland’s place in the UK.
Just about nothing they were promised for the referendum has happened, as they see it Labour lied to them, the Tories are so hated no Scot would even listen to the Nasty party and the Lib whos?
Why are the SNP being blamed for ending up as kingmakers in a hung parliament.
Why is it that the Tories, the most hated government in decades (by anyone that actually gives a damn about the British people rather than British companies) are still in the running?
Why is it that facing off against the most hated government in years Labour are only neck and neck?
Why is it that the people of Scotland and maybe Wales are so pissed at mainstream UK political parties that they are turning to the local parties?
Why are we talking of a hung parliament rather than a landslid and driving a stake into the heart of the Tory Vampire.
This isn't the fault of the SNP, they are taking advantage of the situation yes but that's not a crime. No this is the fault of the incompetent party, Labour, the slightly less right wing Tory party, the political movement that has run away from its roots in a mad dash to grab voters from the Tories and in the process run away from their entire original voter base.
Thing is we are now weeks from the vote and I don’t see any big changes unless something massive happens, the whole situation politically is now so toxic that those voting Tory are not going to change, Cameron and his cabinet could goose step out of number ten and stand in front of the TV crews drinking the blood of freshly sacrificed children in goblets made of human skulls and their vote would hardly flicker.
There is too much fear and hatred when it comes to the main parties, so many are either walking away or turning to the smaller or regional parties. More people were disfranchised by the whole process and DID NOT vote in 2010 than voted Tory and yet we got a Tory government.
Unless something incredible happens such as true democracy and PR voting I think we are now looking at the future of British politics, Tory and Labour blocks going cap in hand to the rest looking to form coalitions or alliances and the regional parties fluctuating in numbers between themselves.
On Wednesday I believe we will be getting the Trussell Trust numbers for 2014 / 15, my thinking is that we are going to be looking at 1.8 to 2 million. The tripling every year over the last few years will be slowing, not stopping but just slowing somewhat.
It may be less, I hope it is less, it may be more. Either way in the sixth richest nation on the planet it is a disgrace that one million people go to food banks and charities to feed their families, two million is a greater disgrace but its becoming just numbers. The remaining Tory voters won’t care, it was worse under labour they will say or it will be worse under Labour, most believing what they say which is why nothing will change their vote. Brainzzzzzz.
The situation we are looking at, the SNP being king makers and holding the whip hand over the British Government, this isn't the fault of the Scottish, they are not to blame, the fault for this is clear.
Tory, Labour, Lib Dem, now so hated or feared only the fanatics and Zombies will vote for them.
