A debate that is both contentious and will set a very important precedent for the future.
Judge Peter Murphy finds himself in a difficult position. He is being pressured from both sides
of the veil debate to make a choice. Allow the veil as a human or religious right or order that
the woman shows her face to maintain human contact and to uphold the fact that we live in
a secular nation bound by secular laws and that for anyone to conceal their identity is wrong.
For those of you who have not been keeping up with this matter a Muslim woman is claiming
that she has a human/religious right under Article 9 of the European Convention on Human
Rights which is covered in the UK under the Human Rights Act to conceal her identity in court.
She “may” allow herself to be identified before female members of the court staff but is insisting
that she remain veiled in the court while giving evidence or being judged by the jury. Incidentally
she is being charged with attempting to intimidate a witness.
How a jury are supposed to consider her innocence or guilt when they are denied the most
important parts of human communication, the visual cues provided by facial expression, is
open to debate.
This matter goes far beyond a single court case.
It is about deciding whether or not we live in a secular nation that is bound by secular Laws that
apply equally to all or do we live in a nation where Ethnic, Cultural or religious minorities are
allowed an exemption from the Laws of the land.
If effect this is to decide are people living in the country bound by the Laws of this country or
by the Laws of their homeland.
Sadly as so often in the past I feel that the Judge, the court, the legal system and our Politicians
will cave in and claim that Human/Religious rights cannot be blocked and that any member of a
minority group is thereby allowed to act above and outside of the Law.
As you may have noticed by this point. I am very against the wearing of veils or for that matter
any other way of concealing people’s faces. Headscarves, not a problem, veils/balaclavas/ski masks
/face masks or anything else which conceals a person’s face, those are a problem.
Criminals hide their faces in Britain. Rioters hide their faces in Britain. Robbers, muggers and
rapists hide their faces in Britain. It is against the Law to enter a post office or bank or to take
part in certain demonstrations while hiding your face.
But such is the craven nature of our Law enforcement, such is the way in which our government
and all major political parties fall to their knees before multi culturalism that certain groups are
allowed to ignore the Law with impunity.
I walk into a post office or bank and I am asked to remove my motorbike helmet even though I
have the whole faceplate lifted, it’s the Law. Members of a minority group claiming human/religious
rights walk passed the staff and no one says a word. There is a good reason why we are seeing
robberies carried out by men in Burka's.
Many on the pro veil side of the debate claim it is a religious requirement.
Oh really.
So the half billion or so women in the Far East who are Muslims and who DO NOT wear a veil, are
they all breaking Islamic religious Law then. Turkey, a Muslim nation, currently has a ban on the
use of the veil. Many Islamic regions of Eastern Europe do not use the veil.
In fact the only place where the veil is common is in the repressive gender discriminatory nations
of the Middle East and here in Europe where the same discrimination is being enforced.
The Sikh religion requires that all men above a certain age carry a dagger. That is a clearly stated
religious requirement; they are NOT allowed to do so in the UK and would be subject to arrest
if they were to walk around with a dangerous weapon on their persons.
Many on the pro veil side will jump in here and say no one makes them wear the veil, they choose to do so.
Oh really.
Would that choice have anything to do with an entire childhood of religious indoctrination, would
it have anything to do with the risk that they would be beaten by fathers, brothers or strangers
for showing their faces like a whore. Would the risk of being raped have anything to do with their
free choice.
In Islam a woman who is raped is guilty of inflaming the rapist. The Middle Eastern version of Islam
holds that men can be so affected by the sight of a woman that they cannot control themselves and
as such are not guilty of any crime. It is the woman who must hide herself from the gaze of men lest
she cause them to lust after her by the sight of her body or face.
Ladies, please read the above twice just to make sure it sinks in. This is the nature of the dark age
barbarity that we face.
If you don’t believe me ask Marte Dalelv
A Friend of mine, Hoz, recently had to go to the Iranian Consulate with his ex wife. They refused to
issue her a passport or to allow her to enter or leave the country unless she had the permission
of her owner sorry Ex Husband.
This is what we are supporting by allowing the culture of repression of women that the veil represents
by permitting them to ignore the legal and cultural requirements of our society.
How a woman wants to dress in private is up to her. How anyone dresses in public is a matter or the
social and legal codes of that nation.
I truly hope that the judge grows a backbone and bans her from hiding her face like some criminal.
I fear he will fail to do so and will, instead set yet another official stamp on minority groups who
deliberately seek to distance themselves from the culture and society of Britain, much to its detriment.
This is the 21st century and yet in so many ways we are trapped in the dark ages
