Henry Paget Flashman, a fictional character from the books by George MacDonald Fraser, first came to fame in ‘Tom Browns School days’.
A Gentleman’s Gentleman, moving in the highest social classes, dashing, handsome, charming, and an utter coward and bully.
His many adventures took him into danger, from which he fled at best speed, and into involvements with many women and friends of whom he abused and took advantage of without shame.
Along the way he managed to gain the reputation of Hero which he also used and abused.
A base, honourless coward and bully.
Which is why Corbyn called Cameron Flashman after the cowardly dig at PMs question time, when Cameron had the last response and used it to call for Corbyn to go knowing full well that the procedures of Parliament prevented the Labour leader from speaking again.
Cowardly and bullying, a real life Flashman.
But not the only one. Not long ago Boris Johnson went on TV and declared that he wasn’t standing for the position of PM, instead he was leaving the fight to the other candidates. Having lead the Leave campaign and won the vote Johnson now, like a spoiled child who has thrown tantrums and screamed till he got what he wanted, finds it wasn't what he thought it was and now doesn't want it.
Having cheered on the campaign that has split the country, caused such future upheavals and left such a mess he has now stopped, looked at the landmine Cameron has left for the next leader and Johnson has done a flashman, he bottled and ran for it, leaving Gove to take his place.
Bully and coward, public school educated, charming, moving in the highest social circles and utterly without honour or courage. Just like the fictional character.
Now we have Gove who until this morning was very definitely NOT going to stand for PM and was part of Team Boris suddenly throwing his hat into the ring.
My suspicion is that he knew Johnson had chickened out either early this morning or last night, odds are on early this morning since his speech sounded a bit rushed. Johnson chickens out and his chief henchman jumps in with a quick knife in the back and a grab at the job he very clearly wasn’t after just yesterday.
Now at this moment I’m torn between thinking Gove has stabbed Johnson in the back here and that Gove was told by Johnson and the two are working together behind the scenes with Team Boris soon to be swinging its support round to Team Gove with a tasty cabinet level job as reward for the blond one.
The next days will tell, watch what happens, if the comments from Team Johnson about backstabbing and betrayal suddenly stop and positive comments about Gove start.
While I’m on the subject of Bullies, I give you most of the Parliamentary Labour Party. The campaign against Corbyn that started on Sunday is in full swing but this isn’t a fight against Corbyn, rather I see a fight between Blairite new labour and the very concept of representative democracy in the Labour party.
An attempt to bully the labour voters themselves by killing off their chosen leader and replacing him with a leader chosen by and loyal to the MPs and NOT the voters.
The timing of this is interesting, as I mentioned a few days ago, at a time when the Tories were tearing themselves apart and trying to avoid the landmine the Labour party, instead of stepping in and using the opportunity to punish the Tories and to act as real statesmen, instead started a nasty little civil war of their own.
So many MPs showing that they have nothing but contempt for the rank and file and seeking to bully them in this way, the fact that the attacks started days ago and only just now have they found someone to step in and challenge for the leadership, four days of backstabbing and bullying from all sides and only now are they putting forward an option.
Parliament has long had a reputation for bullies, the party whips are not known for being friendly people at the best of times and there are a number of reports of MPs bullied to tears. The Tories are well known for it but not the only ones. This last seven days has demonstrated just how many cowards, bullies and honourless backstabbers we have sitting in parliament, our chosen representatives showing their true faces.
Yep, we voted for this pack of scum, Tory and Labour, we voted for them.
Well now we can see what they really are, cowards, bullies, Flashmen.
